2012 Tour Parents Meeting

Thanks again to everyone who attended the meeting in the Royal on Friday night. Below a brief summary of what was discussed and agreed for the weekend and pending fundraising events.Gulabin Lodge and outdoor centre has been booked for sole use on Fri 13th Apr - Sunday 15th Apr as per cost sheets distributed.

The Tour:

We plan to arrange a tour of Murrayfield on the trip up to the centre on Friday afternoon - Ali Campbell to advise
Activities for the Saturday have been discussed and Darren, the instructor at the centre is preparing a full on day of team building activities for everyone to enjoy - Booked

Rugby games are being arrange currently with development officers at other clubs - Ali and Craig to advise

Kit

Bob from the Royal has kindly offered to sponsor kit for the tour – Paul & Craig to discuss with Bob and Debbie for costs etc.

Fundraising:

Given the cost of the tour, discussion were had around fund raising arrangements over the next 6 months and the following events were agreed:

Christmas Raffle - More prizes required - Currently being arranged by Susan and Angela

Carpet Bowling Tournament - Date to be advised event to be organised by Carol King

EBay Page - David Williams is setting up an EBay page to help raise funds, if you have anything to donate and sell, let him know and he will post and sell on.

Summer Rugby Proposal

I hope you all had a great Christmas and new year, here’s hoping we can get started with training now the snow is shifting............below is some very important information with regards to the future of mini rugby, please read carefully and send us your views and comments.
A meeting was held at Riverside on Wednesday night attended by representatives of all our local Mini Rugby Clubs to discuss the feasibility of "Summer Rugby". Below is a link to the proposal prepared by Ali Campbell which was presented at the meeting. All the clubs agreed at the end of the meeting to seek the views of the parents on the subject and we would welcome your comments on the subject via return email jedminirugby@googlemail.com

Proposed Season Changes

Start Sunday 7th August 2011

Finish season Sunday 26th June 2012

1st half of season would be an 8 week block
2nd half of season would be a 15 week block
We feel as a club that this new season would allow the flexibility for holidays for families and allow for the local Festivals to be worked around by individual clubs.
Pros of new season

• Better weather (firmer pitches)
• Increase numbers of players
• Development of skills in players would be higher
• More contact time in sessions
• Less chance of training being called off
• Shorter season more productive though
• More parents around clubs
• Flexibility of training sessions i.e. different days or even nights

Cons of new season

• Clashes with different sports i.e. tennis, cricket, golf, football
• Different holidays for families
• Local Festivals

Injuries

A lot of clubs have raised the issue over more injuries on firmer ground throughout the summer. This would be closely monitored over the first season, recorded and compared to other seasons.
Interested

If you think your club would be interested in this proposal the next step would be to get all the clubs together and sort out some fixtures and the way forward. We will make the first season a pilot scheme and assess it throughout the season. At the end of the day we can go back to the way it was if it doesn’t work out we don’t have anything to LOSE so let’s give it a TRY. Rugby is a huge part of our lives in the borders let’s make borders rugby something to be proud of for years to come.

Bus will leave from the bus station on Saturday at 2:15pm to go to Murrayfield.

Please ensure your child wraps up well with warm clothing, it's Baltic this time of year at Murrayfield.

We will be stopping for chips on the way home at Pathhead, but feel free to send your child with some form of packed lunch type snack as it could be 8:30pm before we get to the chippy! Cost of chips taken care of by the club.

Sco v NZ trip

Hi Everyone,

As previously advised, we plan to travel to the Scotland v All Blacks match on Saturday 13th Nov 2010. The cost of this trip will be £20 which will cover the cost of the ticket and the bus.
Names and £10 deposit (or full payment if you wish) will be taken by myself this Sunday at training. The tickets will be offered on a 1st come 1st served basis to P4, 5 ,6 and 7 only.
Also, we have our social night to arrange. A couple of themes have been suggested:

1) Western Night, with Bucking Bronco, Cactus lasso and Horse Shoe Hurling + Nacho’s and all things western...ish!
2) Quiz night.....teams of 4 or there about, with cash prize and trophy for winning team..... + some music and stuff.
3) A good band / tribute band..... and loads o dancing!

So, these are the suggestions so far and time is ticking as we hoped to have this on the night of Saturday 27th Nov, we would welcome comments and suggestions for this night and an indication as to whether you think its a good idea! Let me know when you see me.

A Very Succesful Tournament

Can I just start off by congratulating everyone on another very successful tournament today. Well done to all the organisers, coaches, back room helpers and helpers on the day, without you today would be impossible, give yourself a pat on the back.

Today we managed to feed 500+ players and 80 coaches from 8 teams well done to the “Dinner Ladies” our fantastic kitchen staff. We also managed to cater for all the spectators of those 500 players, which I would estimate to have been another 700+

Our BBQ and plate tables were again a major success, our small kitchen yet again serving tea, coffee and soup was going like a fair, so much so we ran out of soup and juice very quickly and had to send for more supplies!

Today we managed to gross £1,682.85 which after costs leaves us with a net profit of just over £600.
Brief summary of costs:

Medals - £130
Burgers, Bacon and Rolls - £225
580 players and coaches @ £1.00 per head - £580

We very rarely expect to raise a lot of funds at our tournament and are extremely happy when and if we break free, but with a profit of £600 this year we have to conclude that all the hard work from everyone was worth it.

It would have been nice to have had some better weather and a couple of Jed teams lifting a trophy, but we can't have it all.

Once again, a massive thanks to everyone who helped today, Next event to organise, Our Social Night!

Tournament Update

It was great to see so many parents at our meeting this morning, thank you for taking the time to come.

The tournament starts at 10:30am. Could all helpers / volunteers please be at riverside for 10:00am where possible to help kick off with jobs to be done prior to the tournament start, Tea making, BBQ lighting etc. Please also bring along your items for our plate table before the tournament start. We are looking for parents to provide one or more plates of savoury food such as Sandwiches (Please keep these simple such as Ham, Cheese, Egg) , Sausage rolls, Pork pie’s etc and one or more plates of sweet items, Tray bake, Tablet, Cakes etc.

Many thanks to those who have volunteered your help at out tournament, without you it could never be the success that it is every year.

Please remember, we intend to have a social night for all parents on the 27th Nov, Idea’s for this you be greatly appreciated and can be sent by reply to this email or let me know next week. Idea’s so far are, Casino night and Slug race night, please keep them coming, times running out!

Our tournament is almost upon and yes, we need your help. There are lots of jobs to be done before and during the tournament day and we need lots of volunteers, please. We have jobs in the small and large kitchen, the BBQ, the plate table, the raffle table, selling programmes and many many more.......

Kelso Tournament

Well done to all the teams that played today at the Kelso tournament, some very good rugby played again.

Congratulations to the P4 team on their successful win. They won all of their Games beating Kelso, Hawick and Selkirk in the 1st round going on the beat Melrose 6-4 in the final.

Melrose Tournament Cancelled on Sunday- TRAINING INSTEAD

The Melrose tournament has been cancelled this Sunday due to the state of the pitches after the recent bad weather. This will hopefully give us some much needed training time this Sunday and hopefully see a good turnout from all age groups.Please pass this information on as not everyone keeps up to date with the Blog.

COFFEE MORNING - CHANGE OF DATE

BIGGAR + MELROSE this Sunday

We have a fixture against Biggar and Melrose this Sunday. Could all players be down for 10.30 as usual to allow for some preperation before the games which will start at 11am, hopefully. Unfortunately Biggar and Melrose will not be bringing P3 sides, and as we are short of coaches this week due to Scot v Wales there will be NO P3 TRAINING - sorry about this but it cant be avoided this week.

Murrayfield Trip

The bus time is 12.15 to be away for 12.30 on Sunday from the Canongate Car Park. The match is a 3pm ko.Please ensure the kids are well wrapped up as it can be a cold stadium. We will be stopping at the Lauder Chippy on the way back and will be phoning ahead with the order. The kids menu is £2.20 for the following options 1/2 pizza , sausage, fishcakes,burger or nuggets and £3.20 for fish - a drink is included in the meal deal.To help make it easier for us on Sunday could you tell us what they would like and have the correct money with them when they arrive for the bus on Sunday- this would be greatly appreciated. Any cry offs please let us know ASAP as ther is a waiting list.

Fun Day at Swimming Pool

This Sunday is our Fun Day at the swimming pool starting at 11am all age groups welcome but younger children should have an adult with them for safety in the pool. Could all raffle tickets and money be handed in on Sunday as the raffle will be drawn after the swimming.

Eileen has advised that she will be at the pool on Sunday with stock if anyone has any last minute purchases they would like to make.

Kit For Christmas

Please Note: To avoid any disappointment at Christmas, please ensure your Christmas order for kit and accessories is in to the shop in plenty of time. Some of these items have to be ordered from the supplier.

The shop is open every Saturday that Jedforest 1st XV has a home match. It is also open most Sundays between 10.45 and 11.15 however should you require something urgently then why not pop in and see Eileen Raeburn at The Salon in High Street, Jedburgh or phone her on 01835 863726 to make alternative arrangements for purchase and collection of goods.

This week we have Duns, Penicuik and Alnwick visiting us for some games with over 200 kids involved all contributions of soup and any form of help will be appreciated. Our " burger kings" have decided to have a go at providing spectators with Bacon Rolls this weekend which will no doubt be popular. Games will start at 11 sharp hopefully and be finished by 1pm for most groups but just after for P7. Alnwick will have 2 teams at all levels from P4 to P7. Could all the players who took part in the sponsored bike ride hand their money in this weekend if possible thanks.

MORE HELP NEEDED

If anyone can spare any time on a home game please get in touch. If you have never helped before please also get in touch. New helpers are a must to enable the smooth running and continue to go forward.

Next year we will loose too many parent helpers because their sons move up to the Grammar. I have no idea at all how things in the big kitchen run or the shop but I'm more than willing to show someone else the ropes for the wee kitchen, I've only been doing it this year and takes minimal time to organise rota's and get in touch for people to do it. Ideally it's a job for a parent that has a couple or more years to go but if a P6 parent fancy's a bash please, please get in touch.

Tournament Thanks

Now that everyone has had time to recover and get their breath back I would like to say some major thank you's to every one that worked so hard before, during and after our succesful tournament.

Firstly, to all the coaches for the commitment shown by them, even when not feeling their best, eh Goody closely followed by Amo!, as they give up every sunday during the season and on sunday past they were there at 8 in the morning to get pitches and changing facilities set up for the kids.

Next, the Ladies who worked so hard to make the mountain of food for both the coaches and all those children. Saturday night was quite an eye opener for me! - I've never seen as big a pan o mince in my life! Ladies you were all fantastic and a real credit to Jed Mini's.

Now, to all the Ladies that manned the wee kitchen and sold enough tea, coffee and soup to sink a boat. Once again you were all brilliant. Thanks must also go to all the parents who supplied us with all the pans of soup and all the sweet and savoury foods for the plate table. The tables were once again full to bursting and it was really hard to just choose 5 things, everything looked so delicious. To the ladies that manned that table and had the difficult job of policing the 5 item rule, thanks also.

To all the Dads who worked so hard to organise, set up, cook and sell all those burgers, what can I say! It was definately one of our better ideas and I am looking forward to those bacon rolls that you're planning for the next game! Thank you all so much.

To all the older brothers and sisters who were dragged in to help sell programmes, sweeties and raffle tickets, thank you also. Your help is really appreciated. Thanks again.

Finally, My thanks must also go to all those from Jed Forest who helped on the day as without their help it would have been a lot more stressful than it was. So thanks to, John and Jill for everything you did for us, to Roy for presenting our new trophies and medals, to all our referees as without them there would be no games, and to Jimmy and Moira for the much needed refreshments.

A wee comment to finish on- a melrose mum passed comment that she thought that melrose were supposed to be the biggest and best club in the borders.

Well done and thanks to everyone at Jed Minis for such a great day.

A successful Tournament

What a day......
Well done to all the Coaches, Kitchen and BBQ staff, today was fantastic. Also thanks to Roy Laidlaw and the JGS lads for their assistance with refereeing the matches. Lots and lots of very good rugby played by home and visiting teams alike.

Well done to the P4's beating Melrose 7-6 in their final to retain one of our fantastic new tournament trophies.

Mini Rugby Tournament

It is now only 1 week to our tournament and all the coaches and the ladies who organise the kitchen rotas etc; are very busy. You may be contacted throughout the week to ask for your help. It will be most appreciated if you can do your best to assist us on Sunday as we now have SEVEN teams plus ourselves coming to make our tournament a fantastic day. This means that we will have approx 400 children & 80 coaches to be fed and hopefully as many parents to support them. This means that our clubrooms and changing rooms are going to be full to bursting therefore can I ask that ALL THE CHILDRENS KIT & CHANGE OF CLOTHES IS LABELLED - even their boots where possible!

Jed Legion have very kindly loaned us the use of their changing facilities so please check the blog to ensure that you know where your child is expected to be to change and meet their teammates and coaches and can all the children be at riverside and ready to play for 10.30 to allow them time for warm ups and practice runs.

I also want to remind parents that we ask ALL parents to provide a plate of something savoury (ie sandwiches or rolls) and something sweet (ie traybake or cupcakes) to be sold on the 'PLATE TABLE' . This has always been very well supported and hopefully it will be this year as we will have a lot of supporters to feed. This year, due to the number of teams involved and hopefully the increase in supporters we will follow the lead of every other club and make it 5 items for £1 (at least to start with!). We will also have burgers on sale from the BBQ outside and soup, pies, sausage rolls and tea & coffee available inside. There will also be a 50/50 cash prize raffle and programmes being sold on the day. I will hopefully have some new samples of t-shirts and hoodies that will also be available to order which will be ideal for christmas!

Finally, you will want to know when all this is due to finish....................The medal presentations are planned to take place at approx 1.30pm in front of the main stand.

The Muster at Bowhill

There will be a bus leaving Jed at 10.30am on Saturday from the bus station to drop us at Bowhill for the Muster where the children (p5 to p7) have been invited to take part in the Carterhaugh Hand Ba re-enactment. We will be there until the finish at 4.30pm when the bus will return to take us home. Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and appropriate clothing for the Hand Ba. A top will be given for the Hand Ba game that the children get to keep. If you have any questions get in touch with me on 863505 or by email.

Mini Rugby Registration Day

Hi everyone,

I trust everyone had a great holiday. Just a wee note to let you know, the registration day for the new Mini Rugby Season will be held on Sunday 23rd August at 10:30am, See below poster. Please note that this season all training sessions will have a new start time of 10:30am.

Also below, in the hope of speeding up the registration process, is a blank registration form. Can I please ask that you all complete one of these for each player registering and present to us on registration day. Registration fee will be the same as last year £10 per player.

Please also pass on copies to anyone interested in coming along for the 1st time, new players are always welcome.

More Success For Jed Mini Rugby

Jed Mini Rugby were presented with the Sportsmans' Trophy by 2009 Jethart Callant Murray Yourston at the Callants Smoker on Friday night. This honour was fine reward the efforts of all the players , coaches and parents involved over the season and indeed over the past 34 years that the Mini Section has been running. Gary Munro ,Calum Young,Robbie Yourston,Scott Brown and Findlay Campbell were delighted to accept the cup on behalf of Jed Mini Rugby.

Mini Rugby Update

SUN 5TH APRIL TRAINING

SUN 12TH APRIL EASTER WEEKEND – NO TRAINING

SUN 19TH APRIL TRAINING + PHOTOS + PRIZE GIVING

SUN 26TH APRIL BERWICK AWAY + (NEWCASTLE NORTHERN – I think!)
BUS LEAVES 9.30

This has been a busy period with tournaments at Melrose , Kelso and Selkirk and the Jed sides have competed well and have been a credit to the club and their coaches.
The P3 side, which hasn’t had as many games as we would have liked have done well at both Kelso and Selkirk going undefeated at the latter but no silverware.
The P4s’ have also done well despite their lack of numbers and went close to winning their first tournament at Kelso.
The P5 side continues to perform well and have had another fantastic season winning tournaments at Jed, Melrose and Selkirk while narrowly missing out to Marr at Kelso for their clean sweep.
The P6 age-group is still dominated by a strong Kelso side but the Jed lads are improving and only the guest side Ilkley beat them at the Melrose tournament. Hopefully playing in front of the large crowd at Jed 7’s will inspire them to a win over Kelso on May 9th.
The large P7 squad has enjoyed success also, and has done exceptionally well enjoying a “Grand Slam” season winning at Jed, Gala P7 tournament (where they never conceded a try), Melrose, Kelso and Selkirk. A great achievement and one to be very proud of. This is a large squad of 19 players, which can make it difficult for coaches at times to keep everyone involved, but they have all played their part and have been a real credit to the Jed Minis’. We wish them all the best when they leave at the end of the season.

COACHING – Gary Young finishes after an incredible 10 years at Jed Minis and will be sorely missed after an amazing coaching stint. Keith Munro also finishes after a 4 year stint and again will be missed. As always when we lose coaches they need to be replaced and if you or anyone you know might be interested in coaching please get in touch as the more coaches we have the better it is for the kids.

Kelso Tournament on Sunday 22nd March

Just a wee note to remind you all that we are taking part in the tournament that is being held at Kelso this Sunday and that P3 are also invited to attend. Due to the length of time they would have to wait for the other age groups it has been decided not to take the P1 & 2s on this occasion so my apologies to them for the disappointment of missing out again.

The bus leaves the Bus Station at 10am prompt so please be there in time.

There will be a lot of children at Kelso and it will be likely that we will be sharing changing facilites so can I remind everyone to make sure that all kit is named please.

We have also been advised that there are quite a lot of other visiting teams attending therefore it will be quite a long day for the children so may I suggest that they take a light snack and drink with them that can be eaten between games.

Fixture Changes

Melrose tournament is this Sunday 8th March, Bus will leave cannongate bus station at 09:50am. This tournament is only for P4 to P7

Selkirk tournament is now on the 29th March, Bus from cannongate station at 10:00am

Berwick have re-scheduled their tournament for the last day of the season 26th April, Bus will leave cannongate station at 09:30am.

Coffee Morning 28th Feb

Can I please ask if you would all be so kind as to bring a bottle for the bottle stall and a grocery item for the hamper to this Sunday's training session. These items can also be handed in to Lesley at the Salon in the high street on Thursday or Friday.
We are also as always looking for any donations of raffle prizes which can also be handed in at training or to Lesley at the Salon.

As you all know, we have had to cancel a few games this season and we are now looking to our Coffee morning to help generate a little of the cash shortfall so every donation received will be greatly appreciated.

Pool Fun Day

I think its fair to say, everyone enjoyed the pool fun day.....!
All the junior tickets for the Murrayfield trip have been booked. We will now open a reserve list and anyone wishing to be put on that list can do so by emailing jedminirugby@googlemail.com anyone also wishing to book an adult ticket can do so by emailing the same email address.
Please remember, if you booked tickets for the trip, you MUST pay for them on or before the 1st Training session on the 25th January otherwise they will be forfeited and allocated to someone on the reserve list.

Finally,
Did any of your children return home from the pool on Sunday with 2 pairs of swimming shorts? A pair of turquoise swimming shorts have been lost and do not seem to have been left behind at the swimming pool, if you do have them, can you please let either us know so we can have them returned to their owners.

Scotland v Wales Murrayfield Trip 8th February 2009

We have managed to secure 45 junior tickets and 40 adult tickets for the Scotland v Wales match at Murrayfield on the 8th Feb 2009. We will be opening a 1st come 1st served basis list on Sunday 21st Dec 2008 at the fun day at the swimming pool.

Please note the following important information regarding these tickets:

Prices:

Junior Ticket £10 each
Adult Ticket £30 each
Bus £6 each

All children in P1 to P4 that wish to attend must be accompanied by an adult; each child ticket booked will secure an adult ticket as long as there are adult tickets available.

All tickets booked must be paid for in full before or on the 25th January 2009 (1st Training day after winter break) Tickets not paid for will be forfeited and allocated to 1st come on the reserve list.

Trip to Murrayfield

I would like to congratulate all the boys who attended the international game at Murrayfield against South Africa. Reports received back from your coaches were excellent and because of that we have applied for tickets for the Scotland v Wales game on Sunday 8th February 2009. Please keep an eye out for emails and letters (only for those that do not have email) regarding this in the next couple of weeks as we are not back at training until 25th January and until we have been told what our ticket allocation is we are unable to say who will be able to go.

Sunday 21st December

We have again arranged our annual trip to the swimming pool for Sunday 21st December at 11am. This is open to all age groups, however if your child cannot swim it will be your responsibility to ensure that he or she is wearing armbands and is adequately supervised - go in with your child if you wish!

Hello,

Yes, yet again, Sunday proved to be another fantastic Jed tournament day.

A huge thanks to all parents & committee for their donations to both the plate table and the raffle, and a massive thanks to everyone that worked hard in the kitchens to feed everyone! Over 300 players and coaches were fed plus all the parents who bought soup, pies etc.. Everything that could be eaten was sold!!! It was an absolutely fantastic effort from all those who helped

Well Done everyone.

Congratulations must of course be given to the players and coaches of P5 and P7 on winning there respective groups.

I must also congratulate all of the other players and coaches, Gary Armstrong commented on the standard of play and the passion being shown by the players, keep it up guy's.

I have a special request for any photos from the day that could be put up in the club rooms, Here on the club blog or on Jed forest website. If anyone does have such photo's could you please forward a copy to jedminirugby@googlemail.com

Can I also remind parents that all Xmas orders for the shop should be placed ASAP so as to avoid disappointment. Thanks must also go to you, the parents for your fantastic support of the club shop already this season. The new playing jersey limited offer has already proved to be a big hit especially with the child's name being put on the shirt.

Finally, we are opening the trip to Murrayfield to the P5's, so if anyone wants to put their name on the list then they can do that on Sunday.

Training as usual this Sunday, look forward to seeing you all there.

P1's and P2's

The younger players are always encouraged to join in on game day's at home where possible and at the tournament.

We would like to remind all parents that it is our Tournament this Sunday 26th October 11am start.

Plate Table:

May we also remind you that in addition to the raffle we also require both sweet and savoury items to sell on the 'plate table'. These must be brought in on the day. As both the Raffle and the 'plate table' are major contributors to our funding your help is very much appreciated and we hope that you will continue to provide the same level of excellent support that you have done in the past.

Training Sessions:

Could we remind all parents and players that we collect £1 a week on training days. This money helps cover the cost of food on match days and laundry bills for the tops and also travel costs to away games.
You can if you wish opt to pay these £’s in a block payment, committee members will be on hand each training day to collect and log these.

Thanks again for your assistance and continued support, we look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

We are now into October and have lots of things happening that we need to make you aware of so please take time to note things such as time changes and diary dates.
The committee have also asked that one or two things be clarified to both players and parents in order to avoid confusion at a later date.

Training 19th October:
The training on 19th October will begin at the earlier time of 10am to allow us to vacate Riverside before it needs to be used for the Half Marathon competitors.

Berwick Tournament:
The bus leaving for Berwick on 30th November will depart from the bus station at 9.30am instead of 10am.

Scotland v South Africa 15th November:
We have arranged to take the older children to Murrayfield to see Scotland play South Africa on Saturday 15th November. The cost will be £10 to cover the entrance ticket and the bus. Children will be accompanied to Edinburgh and back by their coaches. There are only 40 places available and they will be made available to P6 & P7 children on a 1st come 1st served basis. If your child wants to go please give their name and ticket money when they pay their £1 at Sunday training sessions ASAP.
Any unused seats will then be offered to P5 children who want to go on the same basis.

Coach Travel to Away Games:
We have been asked to point out that the buses made available to the children on away games are for the use of the children and their coaches only. This is to ensure the continued safety of all the children.

Club Rules and Policies:
The committee wish to make clear to both the children and parents participating in Jedforest Mini Rugby that we operate a Zero Tolerance Policy on bullying and that any allegation that is investigated and found to be substantiated then the child or children involved will be asked to leave the club.

Jed Tournament 26th October:
We would like to remind all parents that it is our Tournament on 26th October and that we will be contacting parents to help in various ways, either in the kitchens or selling raffle tickets etc. We would appreciate it if any donations for the raffle could be brought to training the week before in order to save extra hassle on the day.
